It’s raining in central Texas again. We’re on track for the wettest May since they started keeping records in the late 1800s. We drove home today through some of the heaviest rain I’ve ever experienced (seriously, folks, if everybody is going 30 mph on the interstate, you really don’t need to drive with your flashers on), and it’s still coming down. There have already been a few deaths, and 20 or so people are missing after entire homes were washed away in flash floods. It’s great for the lakes and the aquifer, but I’m ready for a sunny day.

Can I have some of that rain?
Seriously, we haven’t seen any rain at all for May so far in eastern PA.

We haven’t seen any appreciable rain in the last 5 years. This is a God send.

damn dude that sucks. It is starting to get cloudy here. The ground is saturated. The rivers can’t take much more. We ‘ll probably have some high puddles but what sucks here is that the storm get sever. They don’t last too long, but are mean as hell when they pass. I got the tornado warning on my phone at 6:45am yesterday like if it was an Amber Alert. It said,
Extreme Alert: Tornado Warning in your area til 7:00am. Take shelter now.
Dude, I went outside since I was up for F1. It was just a little windy..... then suddenly a heavy wind (at least 50-55mph) came through hard followed extreme white out of rain. Then, the wind picked up even more. Sounded loud as hell. Branches were falling everywhere. Then... it just stopped. It filled the street up with water like if it rained for hours.

How to end 5 years of drought in one month. This El Niño is nuts.

Slowly but surely. But we’ve still got a long way to go. But all this rain is also recharging the aquifer, and that’s huge for us.
Rain that fell in the Hill Country and north of Blanco hit the watersheds that refuel the Highland Lakes chain. As of 5:45 p.m. Saturday, Lake Travis was at 637.36, which was Travis’ highest level since August of 2012. By 2 a.m. Sunday, Travis rose to 640.21. Within an hour, by 3 a.m., it rose another foot and a half. Lake Travis currently stands at 645.27, the highest level it has been since August 2011. The LCRA predicts that Lake Travis will continue to see rises this holiday weekend, as runoff occurs from saturated soils.

Absolutely insane....
Just heard a dam broke in bastrop, wherever that is. That is not good...

I hadn’t heard that. I checked, and it’s flooding a neighborhood called Tahitian Village, which was devastated by the forest fires back in 2011. Those poor folks can’t catch a break.

It’s horrible.....
We needed rain, but this is getting very dangerous with the grounds being so saturated. There's pretty much flooding everyday now. I've been pretty lucky, but even just a mile away parks have turned into lakes. Insane...

Same story here in Tulsa. Clear today, but forecast shows thunderstorms tomorrow through Saturday...
